Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It's a big week here at i.

On Thursday the actor, comedian and emerging national treasure, David Walliams, will be coming to Kensington to edit i, as well as our sister paper The Independent. He will be in this space sharing what I'm sure are forthright views. David has many plans for the Friday paper – including a striking cover, and features which support and publicise Sport Relief and the causes the charity aims to help. It's a big week for Walliams too. On Sunday, see him running a mile with David Cameron. Having swum the length of the Thames last year, that will be a piece of cake, I'm sure.

There is of course the small matter of the Budget tomorrow, and you can expect a concise, quality guide to George Osborne's giveaways and borrowbacks, both online at the usual independent.co.uk during the day, and in i on Thursday. Look out for Ben Chu, Steve Richards, David Blanchflower, Margaret Pagano, Hamish McRae and James Ashton.

Plus, it's the British Press Awards tonight. As mentioned previously, i is nominated for "Newspaper of the Year" alongside big beasts: The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Guardian and the Daily Mail. It is the last-named I fear.

Our amazing i production team under Linda and Rhodri (often to be found mentioned in my dispatches) are nominated together with our design team headed by Dan, and the Geordies, Nick and Charlotte. It will be plain wrong if they don't win. Uniquely in "Fleet Street", we produce two bright and lively newspapers on deadline(-ish) every night – and let's not forget the staff and casuals on their teams. Good luck too to those individuals like Laurie Penny and Jeremy Laurance also up for gongs. Of course, we may not win anything at all. In which case, as you know, awards don't really matter, do they?
