From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The body of Ashley Robinson, 17, a pupil at Millfield School in Somerset, was found in an alleyway in Guildford, Surrey, on Tuesday morning. She had been staying with friends and had been out celebrating a friend's birthday at Cinderella's nightclub in Guildford, but became separated from the group.
Her naked body was found in the alleyway opposite Guildford Civic Centre. Detective Superintendent John Beavis, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "She went outside the club and from that moment we're not sure of her whereabouts." She was caught on surveillance cameras talking to a man outside the club, then disappeared.
A 29-year-old man was being questioned by police in connection with the killing.
Det Supt Beavis said it was a tragedy that "such a young, vivacious lady has been taken so early in her life". He described Ashley as 5ft 7in tall, with dark brown shoulder- length hair shaped in a bob. She was wearing a short black dress and knee-length boots with platform soles. He appealed for witnesses who had been in the area of Cinderella's on Monday night or early on Tuesday morning to come forward with information.
