Ferre borrows romantic ideals of Dior classics
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Gianfranco Ferre has turned to the timeless style of Christian Dior for his spring-summer collection, injecting freshness and ebullience to bring it bang up to date.
Ferre's show in Paris yesterday was a throwback to the romanticism Diorcreated when he reinvented femininity with the "New Look" in 1947.
The German model Nadja Auermann wore a white trouser suit with a transparent top and matching hat, the essence of Ferre's retro styling, for slim rounded shoulders and lithe waistline. The collection featured elegantly tailored suits, woven from silk in its rawest form and menswear fabrics - ottoman, glenplaid, pick-and-pick or pin-striped wool - with lace and organdie bustiers peeking out from beneath jackets.
"It was a very feminine collection," Ferre said. "On one hand strict, on the other flamboyant. There was nothing deep, just colours and wind, just like a breeze that blows over the rose trees."
