Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"Some teachers only do it because of the money. Others do it because they enjoy it. You can tell. They give you enjoyable lessons. They don't just tell you to copy off the board or do an exercise. The teachers here are very good. I like most of mine, though there are some who can't control a class properly. I give teachers my respect but if they didn't show any respect for me, then I would lose mine for them."
Dena Green, 13, wants to be an English teacher
"Friendly teachers make me feel more relaxed in class. I enjoy school but next year I have to do PE. I'd rather have done business studies."
Ricky Wishart, 14, wants to be an engineer or a mechanic
"Teachers should be fair. Some say you've done something when you haven't."
Kiran Toor, 13, wants to go into business
"I come to school to do well, and to do something I enjoy. It's all about your future. Science is interesting, particularly the practicals. I have respect for all teachers. You have to respect your elders."
Karan Garcha, 13, wants to be a scientist or a pilot
"The subjects are interesting. I like school."
Orey Saunders, 14, wants to be a singer
"I don't like teachers to be too soft. They shouldn't try too hard to be friends with us. You can tell which teachers like their jobs. I like the ones who stop people mucking around and say they are there to teach."
