Kenya's Daniel Komen set a 3,000 metres indoor world record of 7min 24.90sec at an international meeting in Budapest last night, beating the previous mark of 7:26:14 set by Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie last January.

Hicham El Guerrouj, the world 1,500m champion, has decided not to run in the world cross country championships in his native Morocco next month.
