Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

1.10: Both Circus Star and Polydamas have narrowly beaten Mr Markham in recent weeks and, on form, should finish close in proximity today. Circus Star, though, had something in hand when swooping late to catch Mr Markham at Cheltenham. Wahiba Sands beat the hot-pot Zaralaska cosily in a muddling event at Leicester last time, and certainly has class. But he could meet his match this time in BALLADUR, who won with a ton in hand at Sandown.
1.45: A tactical contest is in prospect with Tony McCoy hoping to settle PRIDWELL just off the pace. If all goes well, nothing should stop the partnership today. The seven-year-old's winning run came to a halt at Cheltenham last Saturday, but there was certainly no disgrace in attempting to concede 8lb to Relkeel. Pleasure Shared, who took too many chances over fences, has reverted to hurdles this season and is a tempting outsider at 16-1.
2.20: Go Ballistic beat Unguided Missile by less than two lengths in this event on good to firm ground a year ago, but can hardly be fancied this time. The latter is 12lb better in. Gordon Richards's chaser would be the selection but this usually very consistent gelding flopped at Haydock last month. Cool Dawn defeated below-form opposition on this track last time but has strong claims. Callisoe Bay has been running over shorter trips but likes mud and can take this if his stamina holds out. HARWELL LAD has shown temperament in the past and was reluctant to race at Cheltenham last week. He is always capable of repeating the antics, but Rupert Nuttall took him hunting yesterday and is hopeful that this fine jumper will now display the form that brought victory in the Whitbread Gold Cup in April.
