Councils in the Severn Trent Water area have reduced their use of the residual herbicide triazine by 23 per cent after one year of the water company's Spray Safe Campaign. The use of herbicides to keep roads and pavements clear of weeds is a main cause of water pollution. Severn Trent wants councils and their contractors to switch to non-residual herbicides.
