Open Eye: Welcome for Green Paper on teaching
Vice-Chancellor Sir John Daniel has welcomed many of the proposals made in the Government Green Paper Teachers: meeting the challenge of change.
"This document is far-reaching in its potential effects on the supply of new teachers. The Open University has played a central role in teacher education in the UK over the past 30 years and is fully committed to continuing to play a full part in the future," he said.
The Open University is now reviewing its entire provision in the teacher training area and plans for future development will be considered later this year.
Dr Will Swann, Dean of the School of Education, said, "The University has responded to the challenge of the Green Paper by beginning a radical review of its teacher education programmes. The review will encompass initial and in-service training courses, and will build links with training programmes for teaching assistants.
"The University will seek to build strong partnerships with schools and other stakeholders in developing its future programmes."
