Open Eye: Opening Doors To New Careers Summer Bites
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Summer Bites looks at popular jobs in fashion, film, music and sport in four two-part specials on BBC2's Learning Zone.
The programmes contain interviews with Quentin Tarantino, Alexander McQueen, Linford Christie, Richard E Grant and many other leading figures.
"We talk to everyone for inside info, tips and advice, from pattern cutters to fashion designers; runners to film directors," says Jules Pownall, Summer Bites producer. "There are many different routes to a career - but when you're young and on the outside, it's hard to know where to start. We hope Summer Bites will open doors and make these jobs more accessible."
Each career is explored in two programmes designed to be video-recorded. The first provides a background to the industry, while the second shows how to get a foot in the door.
A special menu highlights different programme sections for quick reference. Tips from the top, information on the best courses, websites, telephone hotlines and magazines help to provide a complete picture.
Summer Bites is broadcast on BBC Learning Zone from 3.00 to 5.00am. Remember to set your videos the night before!
