Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

There is still time to enter the political writing competition being run by the Citizenship Foundation with support from the Independent. The competition is linked to the 1994/95 Motorola Youth Parliament Competition. The judges will be Judith Judd, the Independent's education editor, and Andrew Marr, its chief political commentator. The two competition categories are: 1. A law that I/we would like to change or introduce.

2. A column or newspaper leader on a political topic.

Prizewinners will join the overall national winner of the Motorola Youth Parliament Competition at the House of Commons to receive awards of book tokens. They will have lunch with MPs and meet political journalists from the Independent.

Entries should be sent by 10 March to: The Citizenship Foundation, Weddel House, 13 West Smithfield, London EC1A 9HY, 071-236 2171/fax 071-329 3702.
