Extra curriculum:In 2029, no one will be going to school
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The year 2029 is the subject of a book that looks to a future when schools have largely disappeared and the practice of removing children from home to school, which started in the 19th century, is out of favour. Children aged from four to 13 are t aught in their own homes with their parents' help, in tutors' homes, community centres and many other places.
Parents are supported by panels of professional tutors who prepare study programmes that are based mainly on literature and tailored to each pupil's requirements. They also use material from a National Media Library, which can be sent to any television set. John Adcock, the author, says the expansion of electronic media and the increase in non-working time for adults will provide the opporunity to try alternative ways of teaching.
`In Place of Schools, a novel plan for the 21st century', by John Adcock, is published by New Education Press, PO Box 369, Camberley GU15 1QS price £5.95 including UK postage.
