A team from Cambridge University yesterday recorded the lowest score ever on University Challenge.

The all-woman team from New Hall College managed just 35 points while their opponents from Nottingham racked up 335.

At one point New Hall were languishing on minus 15 but not even Jeremy Paxman urging them to salvage "some honour" inspired many more correct answers. With minutes to go New Hall reached 30, only for five points to be deducted when team captain Sarah Davies answered incorrectly.
