Staff at the Los Angeles zoo have evacuated some of the animals and are considering evacuating more.

A fire in Griffith park, where the zoo is situated, has zookeepers on their toes.

The zoo tweeted that it was closing to visitors for the day due to the fire, and that it had evacuated some of the show birds and smaller primates. The Los Angeles Fire Department is responding to the fire and trying to keep it contained.

Several people responded with offers to help transport and house the animals, but the zoo’s twitter account responded that the animal care staff has everything under control. They have sprayed vulnerable areas in order to minimise the fire's advancement in their direction.

More than 127 firefighters responded to fight the blaze, and no injuries or damaged structures have yet been reported, and there are no evacuation orders in place, the LA Fire Department reported. The fire is on hilly terrain and has consumed 30 acres.

The brush fire is just one of several burning throughout California. In Northern California, a blaze called “camp fire” has resulted in tens of thousands of people being evacuated, and at least five people have died so far. Closer to the zoo is the Woolsey fire, which has resulted in mandatory evacuations in and around Malibu, California.
