LEADING SHARES continued their upward path after a brief pause, encouraged by strong earnings from ICI. The chemicals titan leapt 11.8 per cent, leading the FTSE 100 up 9.6 to 5,000.0. Elsewhere, Shire Pharma counterbalanced gains, with a 10 per cent fall on a drug setback.
