ADAIR TURNER (left), the director-general of the Confederation of British Industry, is to resign at the end of 1999, cutting short his official five-year term by six months, it was confirmed yesterday.
A CBI spokeswoman denied speculation that Mr Turner's decision had been prompted by growing tensions between himself and Sir Clive Thompson, the organisation's president. Mr Turner plans to write a book and spend more time with his family. The CBI said it had not yet begun to search for a successor.
