From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The existing Clubcard app, which customers can use to get money off their purchases and build up points when they shop, is closing on 18 April and will be replaced by the new revamped Tesco Clubcard and Grocery app, which shoppers will need to download if they wish to continue earning points.
The supermarket chain already closed its separate Tesco Pay+ app on Monday 27 February and the new app will essentially replace both that and the older Clubcard app, combining the features of both in one place in the interest of greater convenience.
The new version will allow shoppers to pay, view their points balance, spend Clubcard vouchers, order deliveries and check stock in stores all in one, Tesco says.
The app is already live and anyone wishing to go on picking up Clubcard benefits will have to download it from Tuesday.
To do so, simply search “Tesco Grocery and Clubcard” app in your phone’s app store. You can download it for free on Android and iPhone and then simply log back into your account. You will not lose any points, coupons or vouchers by making the transfer.
“Bringing the functionality of Tesco Pay+ into the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is a demonstration of our focus on providing products which closely align to the needs of Tesco shoppers,” a company spokesman said.
It is also worth noting that, while the names are very similar, anyone with a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card will not be impacted by the changes to the apps. Tesco Clubcard Pay+ is a prepaid card giving customers one point for every £8 spent outside Tesco as well as the usual points they would earn with a standard Clubcard.
Those who have a Clubcard Plus subscription, which costs £7.99 a month and gives customers 10 per cent off their shopping twice a month plus other perks, will not be affected by the changes either.
Last month, Tesco announced it would be cutting the value of its Clubcard rewards scheme from 14 June, meaning that points will be worth twice – rather than three times – their value when converted into vouchers to be spent with partner organisations such as Hotels.com, Disney+, Pizza Express and English Heritage.
The supermarket first launched its Clubcard loyalty programme in 1995 and says it has accumulated over 17 million members since then.
