Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Optoplast, supplying optical and sunglass cases and a range of jewellery boxes, made a successful debut. Placed at 128p by stockbroker Williams de Broe the shares went to 142p. The company is thought to have 50 per cent of the optical case market, selling to the five big optician chains.

Langdons Foods, the struggling tea and coffee group, held at 1.75p as non executive director Stephen Barclay sold his 4.2m shares at 1.75p. Last week Plantation & General sold 24m shares (11 per cent). It still has 11.5 per cent.

Bickerton, a builder and property developer, held at 40p - its March flotation price. Stockbroker Teather & Greenwood sees this year's profits rising from pounds 232,000 to pounds 800,000 and then hitting pounds 1.3m.
