Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE OLD Forge at Quainton in Buckinghamshire is thought to date from the 17th and 18th century, with bits added later. The black- and-white former forge just off the village green has five bedrooms, a drawing room, family room, dining room and study. There's a large kitchen- cum-breakfast room and on the first floor, above the garage, a garden room reached via a spiral staircase. Outside is a south-facing garden and separate walled courtyard. The guide price is pounds 325,000, details from Lane Fox on (01295) 273592.

THE OLD Forge in Kinnersley, Herefordshire, 12 miles from Hay- on-Wye, is a semi-detached, three bedroom extended and modernised cottage. It stands in half an acre of gardens, with off-road parking. The sitting room has an open stone fireplace, exposed beams and double doors leading into the dining room. Also downstairs is a large hobbies room, or second sitting room, with a vaulted ceiling and stripped floors. The gardens include apple, pear and plum trees, a greenhouse, and vegetable plot. pounds 125,000, details from GA on (01432) 276266.

THE FORGE at Blacksmith's Corner in Shrawley, Worcester, has plenty of room at the front for horse-drawn carriages, though these days you are more likely to see cars parked on the gravelled driveway. From the entrance hall, there is an 18ft lounge with French doors to the back garden, and an inglenook fireplace. One of the three bedrooms is on the ground floor with an en suite shower room. The upstairs bedrooms have restricted headroom, but both offer under-eave storage space. pounds 124,950, details from GA on (01905) 772084.
