A FORMER chief executive of Telewest, the cable company, has left Bear Stearns, the American investment bank, to become global head of mergers and acquisitions for telecoms and media at WestLB Panmure, the German owned finance house.

Stephen Davidson, 43, has had a long career in investment banking, but it was his stint at Telewest from 1993 to 1998 which really made his name, overseeing the consolidation of the UK cable industry. At WestLB Panmure he will be joining Lorna Tilbian, its well known head of research in the media and entertainment sector.
