SIR STUART HAMPSON'S smack of firm leadership does not appear to have had the desired effect. His ringing declaration last week that the John Lewis Partnership is not for sale, end of subject, has merely provoked even more debate in the letters column of the in-house mag.
One correspondent compares Sir Stuart unfavourably with a banana republic dictator for his refusal to allow a free vote of the partners.
That has to be the clincher. Demutualise John Lewis and where would we all go for such an entertaining read?
