Car production rose by more than 11 per cent to 125,458 in November, nearly double the pace seen in October, figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed yesterday.

Production in the UK was up almost 30 per cent in annual terms. Overall, vehicle production, which includes both cars and commercial vehicles, was up nearly 12 per cent to 136,594 on a monthly basis. The increase was driven by a 21.2 per cent rise in commercial vehicle production, which rose to 11,136 in November.

"UK vehicle production has increased in almost every month of 2010 and is driving a manufacturing led recovery," SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt, said.

The figures on engine production were also positive, up 1 per cent following a dip in October.
