The cement giant Lafarge and miner Anglo American are set to sell major assets, including Tarmac's cement works at Hope in Derbyshire, to win clearance from the Competition Commission for the £1.8bn merger of their building materials businesses.
Analysts expect Holcim of Switzerland, which has aggregates and ready-mix in the UK but no cement, and Breedon Aggregates to be among potential buyers for the assets.
