The private healthcare group Bupa has hired Evelyn Bourke from insurance group Friends Life to be its new chief financial officer.

Ms Bourke, a former chief commercial officer of Friends Life who was most recently chief executive of the insurer's heritage division, will take over from acting group finance director Neil Taylor. He will return to his previous job as finance and development director for Bupa Care Services once Ms Bourke, whose starting date is yet to be confirmed, has settled into her role.

Bupa's chief executive, Stuart Fletcher, said: "Evelyn's finance, risk, actuarial, operations and mergers and acquisitions know-how will be invaluable as we grow Bupa."
