From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With petrol prices on the up and the Christmas shopping period about to commence, a cashback website is giving away £15 worth of fuel for free – but only up to midnight on Thursday.

TopCashback is giving everyone who signs up to their website £15 worth of fuel from any major petrol station, including Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Asda, BP and Shell outlets.

TopCashback says customers must sign up to its website before submitting a photo of the paper receipt, showing the date and fuel station name. The offer can only be redeemed against purchases made on Thursday.

After the receipt is submitted, £15 will be sent to a TopCashbank account within seven days, and can then be transferred into a bank account the week after.

Customers will need to spend a minimum of £15 to claim the free cash.

“It’s excepted petrol prices will rise by 8p a litre in the next few weeks, adding £150 to household bills”, said Natasha Rachel Smith, consumer affairs editor at TopCashback.

“This could leave drivers in a tight situation as other than carefully monitoring your driving style or using loyalty schemes to make spending go further, it’s hard to get a discount on fuel and counteract the hikes”.

Drivers have been forced with higher fuel prices in recent months, with oil prices rising to almost $69 per barrel in September – the highest in two years.

According to the RAC, filling up a 55-litre family car with petrol cost £65.55 whilst a tank of diesel cost £66.17 in late September.
