BMW has announced that it is it is in talks to sell its engine plant at Longbridge and its Swindon component works.

The German company confirmed that it was discussing selling the sites, which supply engines and components to MG Rover, with swindon also providing components for the new Mini.

A company spokesman said that the firm was under no pressure to complete a deal in a hurry. Rover - which was bought by the Phoenix group earlier in the year - wants the Longbridge plant, while coachbuilder Mayflower is the interested party in the Swindon works.
