EUROTUNNEL has begun legal proceedings to claim money from British Rail and French railways - only weeks after settling a bitter dispute with the Channel tunnel's builders.
A company spokeswoman declined to detail the size of the claim but said it was significant. Analysts believe it involves several hundred million pounds.
Eurotunnel has asked the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris to arbitrate on a 1987 contract with BR and SNCF of France, under which Eurotunnel made half of the tunnel's capacity available to the railways in return for payments related to traffic volume and operating costs. It will use the other half itself.
