MUCH computer software is capable of dealing with the millennium date change and should not overly concern small businesses, a report out today shows. The report, prepared by Sainsbury's and the computer services group Logica reveals the results of tests carried out on standard "off the shelf" software products used by Sainsbury's.
Of the 25 products that were tested, only two - Novell Netware version 3.11 and Lotus Organiser version 1.1 - were found to be unable to cope with dates beyond the new millennium. The report will allow small businesses, many of whom have been slow in checking their systems, to concentrate on the areas where they may have problems, such as in "legacy systems" like old databases.
