Merger in trouble
The planned merger of KLM, Swissair, Scandinavian Airline System and Austrian Airlines to create a new super-airline 'Alcazar' looked close to collapse yesterday. The four airlines were expected to break off talks after 10 months, because of a dispute about the choice of a US partner. KLM wanted to retain its link with Northwest Airlines, but the other three favoured Delta Air Lines.
