Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A TEAM from M&G's Chelmsford office won the Business and Investment Management Game on Saturday, the first time they had got as far as the final round after nine years of play, writes Clare Dobie.

Alan Offord, who retired more than two years ago, Barry Beavis and Ray Rendell, who missed the finals due to illness, made a notional pounds 6.39m profit in the game, which tests management and market skills.

Organised by the University of East Anglia, the business game, which is in its 14th year, is sponsored by Norwich Union and the Independent. The results were announced at Earlham Hall in Norwich.

A team from C-MAC Microcircuits came second, one from KPMG Peat Marwick took third place, King's Investments came in fourth and South East Essex VI Form College, a regular entrant, came fifth.

The Plate round - for runners up - was won by G Maunsell and Partners, with Whatman Paper, Knight Piesold, Rover Group and MK Electric just behind.

Anyone wanting to take part in next year's competition can get information from David Ward, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, tel: 0603 58220.
