CLIVE HOLLICK, the chief executive of United News & Media (pictured), was last year awarded 77,710 shares worth pounds 600,000 as part of the group's executive reward scheme.
The award was in addition to Lord Hollick's annual salary of pounds 667,626, according to the media group's annual report. However, the stock market value of his allocation of shares had tumbled to pounds 409,532 by the end of 1998.
