New contracts in Europe and the US helped push six-month profits at Logica, the computer services company, to pounds 9m from pounds 7.2m last time. Shares rose 17p to 532p on the news of the better-than-expected performance.
The company, which specialises in computer applications for the utilities, telecommunications and defence sectors, is a finalist, with partners, in at least four large tenders in the UK, including the pounds 10m contract to provide a payments system for the Benefits Agency.
