DAIMLER-BENZ has developed an intelligent windscreen wiper that knows how hard it is raining and adjusts its speed accordingly. A sensor illuminates a small area of the windscreen with infra-red light. Raindrops reflect the light and the sensor analyses if, and at what speed, the wipers should be operating.
