David Bowen has won the 1993 National Newspaper Industrial Journalist of the Year award, sponsored by the Industrial Society, for his reporting in the Independent on Sunday. The judges commended him for his stylish and authoritative coverage of topics ranging from oil rigs to the Japanese in Britain.

Gerard Henderson of the Manchester Evening News won the provincial newspapers category.
