Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

At Born, we’re always looking to help get the next big ideas off the ground. The UK has always been a great place to start a new business but the current lack of bank lending is now its biggest growth barrier. Our crowdfunding platform aims to bridge that gap so that independent design and creative entrepreneurs can get funding from our network of design-savvy backers. We’ve helped Katherine and Tom Homfray bring their smart night lights for children to life and artist Nina Fowler create a catalogue of her life’s work.

We’re big believers in creativity and entrepreneurship, that’s why we’ve teamed up with the Independent to find the next big innovation. Running a nationwide competition, we will give the winner the chance to give birth to their idea with a PR budget fund of up to £15,000.

This competition is open to entrepreneurs, startups, SMEs and individuals looking to take their idea, product, or service to market. To further spur awareness and funding, entrants can gain financial support of their idea on born.com.

The winner will be announced on 31st May 2015 and will work closely with the Born team to build their project and implement their PR plan. Along with the prize, the winner will receive mentoring from Born’s expert panel around their ‘next big innovation’ idea.
