The National Consumer Council called for continued tough regulation of BT's inland call charges for domestic customers - currently under review by the watchdog, Oftel. The NCC urged Oftel to resist pressure from BT and others for a relaxation of controls, saying that "the interests of ordinary households must not be overshadowed by those of industry". BT has argued that regulation should diminish as competition increases. Its rivals also want weaker controls as a clampdown on BT's prices forces them to follow suit.
