Half year to 30 June

Wyevale Garden Centres boosted pre-tax profits from pounds 2.2m to pounds 3.1m. Sales rose 75 per cent to pounds 20.3m (pounds 11.6m), helped by the successful integration of the Cramphorn garden centres acquired last October. Interim dividend is held at 2.48p.

Vivat Holdings lifted pre-tax profits 26.3 per cent to pounds 1.2m (pounds 934,000). The company said that the elimination of pounds 1.1m losses and interest costs relating to discontinued activities led to the improvement in group profits.

Expamet International, which serves the industrial and building markets in the UK and abroad, announced a 20 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to pounds 2.4m (pounds 2m). Interim dividend is 2.09p (4.18p).

Kode International, which makes printed circuit boards, achieved pounds 330,000 (pounds 126,000) pre-tax profits. Interim dividend is 1.5p (1p).

JW Spear & Sons, the toys and games maker, cut pre-tax losses to pounds 315,000 (loss pounds 638,000). Interim dividend is 2.5p (2p).

Shorco Group Holdings, suffered a marginal fall in pre-tax profits to pounds 105,000 (pounds 115,000) on better turnover of pounds 3.5m ( pounds 3.3m). The company said the result was affected by the effect on the construction industry of the recession and pressure on margins on the back of increased competition. It is paying an interim dividend of 2.4p.

LEC Refrigeration halved pre-tax profits to pounds 320,000 (pounds 703,000). Interim dividend is held at 4p.

T Clarke, makers of electrical equipment, fell from pounds 1.2m to pounds 672,000 pre-tax profit. Interim dividend is held at 1.26p.

Others

Applied Holographic, which makes and produces hot stamping foils and holographic products, reduced pre-tax losses to pounds 1.6m ( pounds 2.6m) in the year to 31 March.

EIT Group, the information technology concern, has reduced pre-tax losses from pounds 246,000 to pounds 190,000 for the year to 31 May.

Embassy Property Group is proposing to raise about pounds 2.5m by a placing of 56 million new shares at 5p each, and the issue of just over 5.7 million new 5p shares in a three for four rights issue.
