Comcast changes customer's name to 'Asshole' on bill
The same Comcast that 'extorted' Netflix
Itself a notorious asshole of a company, Comcast has this week produced some spectacularly bad customer service, changing a customer's name from Ricardo Brown to 'Asshole Brown'.
The cable provider made the change after Ricardo's wife Lisa called to cancel their subscription, and received the insult on the family's next bill on top of a $60 cancellation fee.
Suspecting the bill might have been doctored, consumer advocate blogger Christopher Elliot checked with Comcast who confirmed their error.
"We have spoken with our customer and apologized for this completely unacceptable and inappropriate name change," Comcast vice president of communications for the Washington region Steve Kipp said.
"We have zero tolerance for this type of disrespectful behavior and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what happened. We are working with our customer to make this right and will take appropriate steps to prevent this from happening again."
Brown palmed off Comcast's efforts to get her to sign up to a new two-year contract when she put in the call to cancel, but has no idea why the customer service representative was so angry as she insists she was perfectly polite.
"I was never rude," she said. "It could have been that person was upset because I didn’t take the offer."
Comcast offered the Browns a full refund for the last two years and two years' service at no charge.
