Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

LLOYD'S HEADS FOR COMPENSATION

David Rowland, the chairman of the Lloyd's insurance market, is expected to move closer tomorrow to a promise of substantial compensation to members hit by huge losses, if they drop pounds 2bn of lawsuits against the market.

At a meeting of up to 3,000 members in the Royal Albert Hall, London, Mr Rowland is expected to underline Lloyd's determination to end the litigation. Though he will hold out the prospect of compensation he will not give a figure. Lloyd's dismissed a report that he would make an offer of pounds 900m.

24-HOUR DEALING

Sharelink, the cheap share-dealing operation, is introducing a 24-hour dealing service ahead of the final BT share sell-off. Calls to 'Autodeal' will be at normal telephone rates.

METALL DEAL

The IG Metall union and steel industry employers have reached a wage agreement that ends a three-week strike in eastern Germany involving some 9,000 workers. The two sides agreed to bring eastern steelworkers' wages up to par with those in western Germany by April 1996.

RINTOUL TAKEOVER
