Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Industry award for Eurotunnel men

Andre Benard, chairman of Eurotunnel, and Sir Alastair Morton, the Channel Tunnel group's chief executive, have been named 'men of the year' by the property industry at its annual conference in Cannes.

At the conference Mr Benard admitted that a full freight service through the tunnel might not begin until July, four months later than originally scheduled and well after its planned 6 May formal opening by the Queen and President Mitterrand.

Disney fireworks

Euro Disney's annual meeting, which takes place today at the Paris theme park, is likely to be a noisy affair, with shareholders angry that their shares have fallen to a third of their value a year ago.

Apple launch

Apple Computer today launches its new range of high-performance Power Macintosh personal computers, the 6100/60, 7100/66 and 8100/80. Apple executives say the company's goal is to ship one million of the new computers in the first year and to have a 20 per cent share of the worldwide pc market within the next few years.
