Bunhill: Annual demand
BEING the time of year it is, Bunhill finds himself in the tiresome position of having to deal with the Inland Revenue. The buff envelope duly landed on the mat last week, showing the amount payable and threatening all manner of penalties should the demand be ignored. The natural inclination at such trying times is to stay in bed, leave the country or simply ignore the request.
Imagine the relief therefore - and I promise this is true - when further examination of the demand revealed that the Revenue wanted precisely nothing, not a penny. Quite why it was sent is beyond me but I am told it is perfectly normal.
