Budget 1999: Insurance tax rises by 1p

INSURANCE PREMIUM tax will rise by a penny in the pound, raising pounds 250m a year for the Exchequer.

Insurance premium tax will now be levied at 5p, up from 4p last year. The Association of British Insurers said the move would add to upward pressure on insurance premium rates.
