STOCKS ROSE moderately on hopes that the government's economic package will be followed by more stimulus measures. The benchmark Nikkei 225 climbed 160.06 points, or 1.12 per cent, closing at 14,428.27.
The markets were disappointed that the package contained little more than was already expected. The Nikkei eased back slightly after the announcement. But traders said investors were hesitant to sell stocks because the government might yet unveil further measures to bolster the economy.
