THE PARIS BOURSE ended with a loss, below the 5,500-point support, led by a sell-off on telecom stocks. Brokers said sizzling media shares helped to cushion the decline. The CAC-40 index closed off 0.86 per cent at 5,487.12 points.
France Telecom, which represents more than 13 per cent of the CAC-40 capitalisation, ended down 6 per cent amid reports BellSouth would seek to block the French carrier's bid to control Germany's E-Plus. France Telecom declined comment.
