THE CAC-40 INDEX closed up 1.09 per cent at 4,465.23, pulled up by firm US shares but the market remained cautious ahead of this week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting. A trader said: "If the Fed comes up with 25 basis points this might initially placate the markets. But then they might start worrying that this is not enough."

Media stocks Canal Plus and TPS added nearly 4 per cent and 2 per cent respectively after they reached a deal to share soccer broadcasting rights.
