THE DOW Jones index gained, led by DuPont and General Electric on expectations that they will be able to raise prices for goods. Falling Internet shares dragged the Nasdaq to its worst drop in 10 days.
The Dow rose 72.82 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 10,563.33 after four straight days of losses. The Nasdaq lost 49.59 points, or 2 per cent, to 2,398.29, its biggest drop since 1 June. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.36 points to 1,294.
