US RETAIL stocks climbed, led by Wal-Mart Stores, after a report showed sales rose more than expected for an eighth straight month in May. Computer-related companies fell for a seventh day in 10 on concern their shares are too expensive given their earnings outlook.

The Dow Jones index rose 85.80, or 0.8 per cent, to 10,663.69. The Standard & Poor's 500 climbed 4.78, or 0.4 per cent, to 1,299.59. The Nasdaq index dropped 28.67, or 1.2 per cent, to 2,403.74.
