THE MARKET fell 1.3 per cent, hit by sharp falls on Wall Street. The FTSE 100 closed down 80.6 points to finish at 6,195.6, having at one stage been down 107.
The bank and telecom sectors were again targeted by profit takers, with Bank of Scotland and Colt Telecom being the two worst performers in the blue-chip index.
However, Legal & General shares provided some excitement late in the session, finishing up 10.7 per cent, amid rumours a predator was about to bid for the insurer.
