THE MARKET put together an impressive rally on the back of a strong performance by Wall Street.

The FTSE 100 closed 81.4 up at 6,484.8 - close to the session's high - in volume of 1 billion shares. Dealers said trading was sluggish until mid-afternoon when a strong Dow opening sparked a wave of buying. New York's good reaction to positive data ensured a strong ending to London's week. Second liners ended higher, the FTSE 250 closing 20.5 up at 5,817.5 and the Small Cap ending up 6.1 at 2,608.9.
