STOCKS CLOSED down, taking a cue from the Tokyo and US markets, although remaining well supported at current levels.

The Hang Seng Index closed down 83.92 points, or 0.54 per cent, at 15,377.19 after being down almost 2 per cent at one point in the afternoon.

Traders said that investors seized the chance to take profits after seeing moderate losses on Wall Street overnight and bigger losses in Tokyo.
