LACK of direction, and the start of the year end lull, saw Hong Kong shares tread water yesterday. In a thin day's trading, the Hang Seng Index closed up 0.1 per cent at 10.361.

Chinese stocks gained after the publication of a report showing an 11 per cent rise inoutput in China, the fastest growth since January.

The state-owned Beijing Datang Power gained 8.4 per cent, as it announced a boost in revenues.
